My Furst Furson EVAR?!?? I think this answer has to be answered in two ways! My first "OC" was made in 6th grade (circa 2004): a black cat named Neva who wore an earring and said "fuck." He's still around! I didn't know what furries were, or that you could make one to accurately project your whole self into. Then I got into Sonic the Hedgehog sprite art and drawing on an oekaki called Team Artail in 2008. I began drawing two cats: Hate and Chet Farron, a brother and sister almost definitely subconsciously based on the characters from the webcomic VGCats. Hate is, as you can imagine, an incredibly grumpy and violent creature with no love for the world for anyone except her brother Chet, who loaned out his only braincell to a schoolmate that moved away. Naturally because they're Sonic OCs, they had to have abilities, so Hate was incredibly strong and could morph into pools of liquid much like Chaos, and Chet (who is blue, mind you) can run insanely fast and has supernatural healing capabilities. I am very creative! At this point in time, I STILL didn't know what furries were!! "Sonic OC" and "furry" were separate concepts to me, and even still I wouldn't have a single character that was solidly "me" until many years later. But it's solid to say that Hate and Chet jointly represented my young self in a way that made sense to me. Hate, who was closed off, angsty, edgy, hurtful, but fiercely protective of her soft, funny, silly, ignorant, energetic little brother Chet. Drawing their interactions was a way for me to safely project and analyze my own weird feelings and interactions with the world, and their love and loyalty to each other was, and still is, practicing self-love. They're still around, too!!
